he Clinical Service Grants Division is under the direction of Dr. Bill Woodhouse and helps support our Patient Services Division. The following are some of our awarded grants.

Perinatal Outreach
In 1998 Dr. Woodhouse obtained the Perinatal Outreach grant that set up perinatal clinics in nearby communities of American Falls and Aberdeen under the partnership of Health West. This has provided a rich source of obstetric patients for the residency program.

DART
The University of Washington has received line item appropriation money to provide a demonstration project in rural training for the sixteen residency programs in the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho network who provide rural training to their residents and other health provider personnel. This money will be used to fund residents’ rural rotations (see the second and third year curriculum).

Ryan White Funds
The HIV Clinic is sponsored by independent Ryan White funding that was initially obtained on behalf of both residencies by the Boise residency and will be dividing into separate grants by the year 2004. This funds our infectious disease consultant, the pharmacotherapeutics and some outreach to local communities.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
A $900,000 line appropriation grant was received to provide electronic medical records for both the Boise and the Pocatello residency programs. This should be up and running by the end of 2004.

Women’s Health Initiative
The Women’s Health Initiative grant was received under the direction of Dr. Woodhouse in 2002 and funds outreached to women who have abnormal PAP smears but no funds to take care of their GYN problems. Since the initiation of this grant a large number of women in Southeast Idaho have presented themselves for care of previously neglected abnormal PAP smears, providing essential preventative medicine interventions and the opportunity for good procedural education for the residents.
