Second Year residents have two months available for electives of their choosing. Third year residents have three months available for electives. Residents who are planning to include obstetrics in their future practices are strongly encouraged to take one month of elective advanced obstetrics in both their second and third years. Available elective experiences are listed and described with supervising physicians, content, goals and objectives for the resident’s review in the Residency Manual and the Elective Book located in the Residency Coordinator’s office. The residents are expected to discuss the choice of electives with their advisers at their quarterly evaluation meetings. Issues considered in this selection include future practice demands, perceived or measured individual weaknesses and areas of personal interest. Once a rotation is decided upon, arrangements are made with the residency coordinator for the rotation. If the resident has an area of interest or special need that is not represented by one of our existing electives a template is available for the resident to develop the content, goals and objectives for a new elective which meets their needs.

Third Year Elective
A popular elective is to learn some advanced plastic surgery techniques with our plastic surgeons, Drs. Maloff and Wills, who are willing to share their expertise.
